New Specialized Modules For Municipalities
MaintStar is proud to announce the release of five new modules for public agency
needs. In addition to the customizable general work order, MaintStar now has dedicated modules designed with advanced functionality to meet the needs of specific agency divisions. Developed with
extensive input from our existing Public Services users, the new modules meet the real-world-needs of the following operations:
Transportation and Streets -Streets, signs and signal operations
Water - Water plant and distribution maintenance
Storm Water - Storm water and drainage management
Parks - Parks, recreation and landscape management
Sewer - Waste water distribution service maintenance
These specialized modules have many advanced features to
streamline daily operation and improve agency efficiency. Each specialized module has it’s own dedicated database, designed for the types of assets particular to each division.
Work orders and inspections are also designed for the
different working needs of agencies. Work orders can be made with multiple assets listed on a single work order. When closed the record of the service, and related costs will be spread to each
asset’s history automatically.
These new modules of course have MaintStar’s outstanding
flexibility, with full customization tools built in. The modules integrate with MaintStar’s existing work planning structure, for budget and resource management. GIS integration with ESRI
systems has been enhanced, as has management reporting functions.

service requests. Whether your requests come from an external source, such as citizen complaints or service requests initiated by your agency staff, this system will help you manage them all. Users

Prompt responses to requests and timely feedback is the way to maintain excellent customer service
relations. The MaintStar Web-based Request System is designed with your goals in mind at every step of the process, from the initial request, through approval, to work completion. The system has
automatic e-mail notification to your customer of your acceptance of their request, and when the work is completed. If work is denied, or delayed the system will keep them informed automatically.
The MaintStar Request System can be configured to automatically advance requests the appropriate

approver.
The system will also monitor new requests and advise you if they appear to be duplicates of requests
already received.
This advanced system will create work orders from approved requests and close the original request when
the work order is completed automatically. After the work is finished the system will produce customer satisfaction surveys and has built in analysis reports.

This has been a source of potential confusion. So... in our tradition of “keeping things

Choosing the Right Shop Software
Jim Mele, editor-in-chief Fleet Owner
Rural Metro Corporation. provides full maintenance and repair services for separate fire, ambulance and administrative
vehicle fleets in Mesa, Az. With seven departments generating maintenance data, including separate PM, general repair, major repair, refurbishing and body shops, the company's old maintenance
software couldn't keep up with tracking the 200 vehicles in its care.
“Repair and PM histories were inaccurate, and coordinators were spending all their time on paperwork,” says
John Santori, Assistant Fleet Manager for the company's Mesa, Az. shop. “But worst of all, there was no way to break out data from vehicle histories.”
Eighteen months ago, Rural Metro switched to MaintStar, a stand-alone Windows-based system from
MaintStar Inc. Coordinators still generate work orders when vehicles come in for repairs, but with complete records a click away, they can now route a vehicle to other departments if, for example, the
system shows a PM or other work is also due. The coordinators also close out the work orders, entering data into the system from paper records, although technicians now enter time and parts information
directly using a shop-floor terminal. In addition, the shop terminal gives technicians access to over two years of repair history for each vehicle.
The system's Window's environment and easy data entry has cut the coordinator’s record keeping workload in half, according to Santori. “They have time to do the rest of their work, and we also get more accurate records,” .
The major advantage, however, is the improved reporting. “It has lots of standard reports, and there's a query
module that will let you generate just about any customized report if you have some experience with (Microsoft) Access,” says Santori. “For example, we can find out how much money we
have spent on a specific vehicle over a specified period of time, or see how many times a certain part has failed in the entire fleet.”
