  • MaintStar is a Finalist in Smart City Expo “Call for Apps” Contest

    MaintStar was chosen as a finalist last month at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. MaintStar participated at the Expo as a member of the Microsoft CityNext exhibit. The Congress held a “Call for Apps” contest looking for innovative technology solutions that can help cities and other municipalities work smarter in various areas, while increasing levels of customer service & satisfaction.

    On behalf of the Evaluating Committee of the Call for Apps contest, it is a great pleasure for us to announce that your proposal, Citizen Engagement through “Mobile Citizen” has been selected as a finalist at the SCEWC 2015.

    MaintStar, as a partner within the Microsoft CityNext initiative, will be participating and exhibiting at the world leading smart city event. This expo brings together global, national, and regional urban representatives, thought leaders, academic institutions, research centers and top corporations that have the kind of decision-making power that drives smart cities and empower its citizens.

    Driving citizen engagement through innovative mobile application technology has been a large part of MaintStar’s latest municipal initiatives. Whether assisting the city or county with notification of various non-emergency service opportunities or scheduling an appointment with a local city building inspector, MaintStar helps citizens in connecting better, faster and with more alacrity than ever before. The momentum around this event mirrors the enthusiasm seen globally in the smart city space, with over 12,000 expected visitors and nearly 300 exhibitors.

    MaintStar will be exhibiting within the Microsoft CityNext pavilion and speaking at a number of venues, presenting our newest technologies and sharing real municipal experiences that are in use today.   • New smart app in Alameda County matches technology with civic engagement

    Alameda County has over 1.5 million people, which means when a tree falls in the road, a power line goes down, or a teenager with a spray can decides they’re an artist, it can affect a lot of people.

    County residents now have a new tool for reporting issues like these to their Alameda County Public Works Agency, and it comes in the form of a smartphone application called Mobile Citizen. The app, available for iPhones and Android phones, allows citizens to take a photo of the problem and submit it along with GPS coordinates gathered by their phone.

  • App Lets Drivers Report Potholes with Smartphone

    A new app from Alameda County Public Works allows motorists to report potholes directly to the agency from their smartphones. The “Mobile Citizen” app works on Android or Apple devices. It lets users submit photos of potholes, graffiti, illegal dumping and other such requests for service directly to the county.
